Black Swan

Black Swan Australia

ROOM TO MOVE

This dignified waterbird prefers larger rivers and wetlands - It requires at least 40m of clear water for taking off.
About 8000 wild Black Swans live all year round in Moulting Lagoon. on the edge of
Freycinet National Park, nearby.Thousands more fly there during dry seasons to find
food and water.Their loud trumpeting calls can be heard at night as they fly under
the cover of darkness.

WHY IS ITS NECK SO LONG?

A long neck lo useflul for mashing the
underwater plants on which swans feed.
Shallow wetlands full of pondweeds and algae are favourite feeding places. Swans also graze on pastures.

DON'T COME TOO CLOSE!

Swans are friendly but they will agressively defend their nest and their young. If a swan raises his feather or wings move away! If you go too close, it might hiss or even peck you.
